Back to school season is coming up fast. Each new school year brings it’s own unique challenges and changes. Whether you are excited or nervous, prayer is an amazing tool that God has given us. Use these last few weeks to prepare your kids, grandkids, students, or even yourself for the new school year by praying.

I am the Student

If you, yourself, are the student, use these prayer prompts to pray over yourself. A new school year can be really hard. You are managing friendships, adjusting to new teachers, and relearning the things you forgot from last year. Praying over your school year before it starts can give your heart the right attitude.

How to Stay in Prayer

Journal it: Flip through your journal and write one of the prayer prompts at the top of random pages in your journal. When you arrive at this page, take a moment to write out a short prayer based on the prompt.

Post it: Use the printable version of these prayer prompts and put it inside your Bible, next to your kitchen sink, or another place that you commonly have a quiet moment.

Schedule it: Put reminders in your phone with the prayer prompts scheduled through out the year. Pick a consistent time or allow the Holy Spirit to prompt you to schedule random times.

In Fellowship: If you are in a small group that has lots of college age students in your circle, make these prayer prompts a part of your regular meetings.

Prayer Prompts for Back to School

Ask God for:

  • Ask God to give the student a joyful summer before the busy first semester. Pray over the events that you know are on the schedule, as well as the mundane days.

  • That the student is placed in classes with the right people who will encourage them, or be encouraged by them.

  • For the student to have a good first day that is drama-free, smooth, and sets a positive tone for the school year.

  • For the student to have restful sleep for the first week of school and good dreams.

  • For blessings over the student’s study time. Ask God to help them retain the information and make connections that will benefit their learning.

  • As the student moves through the school year, ask God to make His voice louder than any other.

  • Ask God to give the student wisdom as they encounter new situations.
