New Testament in a Year Bible Reading Plan

Spend one year reading the New Testament. If you haven’t read the Bible consistently in a while, this is an excellent place to start. It is life giving to read the Words of Jesus and his disciples.

How it is Structured

Each day you will one chapter from the New Testament, in the order it appears in your Bible, from Matthew to Revelation. Some days your reading will be light, as not all chapters are the same length.

Before You Start Your New Testament Reading Plan

Starting a year long reading plan can be a daunting task. It is very important that you take a moment before starting this plan to pray. The enemy will do everything in his power to stop you from spending regular time in the Word, especially as you are reading about Jesus. Ask God to stay with you as you walk through this reading plan. And talk to Him about why you are starting this reading plan.

It is helpful to write prayers like this down. If you journal, write it in your journal. Or, write out the prayer on a piece of letter paper, fold it up, and tape it inside of your bible.

Dear God,

I am setting a goal to read the New Testament in one year. I’m worried that I will not stay consistent through the whole year. Please be with me as I read. Let me be filled by reading Your Word, so that I want to keep reading every day. Help me to see the truth  and wisdom found in my reading. On hard days, on great days, when I am worn down and when I am overcommitted, meet me in the Bible. Thank You for the good work You are still doing.

In Your Name,
Amen

Tips for Success

  • Track Your Progress
Use the downloadable progress tracker at the top of this page. Or, keep it simple and write out check boxes on a notepad or sticky note and put it some place you will see it daily.

  • Write It Down
Consider recording each day’s bible reading in your paper planner or digital calendar so you have your reading assignment with you.

  • Make a Plan
Think about your day and routines. What would be the best time for you to do your quiet time during this reading plan? Recognizing times that would be good to read your verse for the day in advance will help you stay on track. I recommend choosing something earlier in the day, so you can reflect on the verse through out your day.

  • Set an Alarm
If you plan on doing your reading at a specific time, set an alarm/reminder on your phone or computer

  • Location Isn’t Important
Many people love doing a long, reflective early morning quiet time. This idea, while beautiful, is not always realistic on a day to day basis. Doing any quiet time is better than doing no quiet time. Don’t be afraid to sneak it in while you are waiting in your car, when the oven is heating up, or right before you go to bed. Letting go of a specific idea of what quiet time should look like is part of how you make it a routine and not just a dream.
